International Medical Relief, established in 2003, has been providing medical, dental and surgical care to under-served and vulnerable communities around the world through short-term medical mission trips. International Medical Relief recruits qualified medical teams made up of doctors, dentists, medical students and other health care professionals as well as non-medical volunteers.

All arrangements are made for its medical volunteers, including transportation, interpreters, food, government permits and in-country housing. Equipment, supplies and medicines are secured for the overseas medical clinics from donations through partnerships with other medical organizations.

International Medical Relief strives to partner with local medical and dental providers on every medical mission. This increases the continuity of care for the patients that they serve and is very important for improved community health. In addition, they look for partnerships with local medical and dental schools and also have residency programs in each medical clinic. As a result of this, every clinic has a teaching focus. Medical mission partnerships with local providers creates valuable experiences for the team members and is a unique aspect of working with International Medical Relief.

Team education is another focus on International Medical Relief trips. They often have medical/dental/NP- PA/nursing/EMT students on the medical mission trip and teach as much as possible during medical clinic hours. They partner with local health care workers who often work side-by-side with the team in clinic. This allows for educational exchanges in every facet of the medical mission trip.

International Medical Relief brings all basic foundation medicines and supplies for the medical clinic. Volunteers are crucial partners and participate in this effort by collecting medicines and supplies as they prepare for their trip. International Medical Relief teams as well as the patients benefit greatly from any and all equipment, medications and supplies that International Medical Relief can acquire.

Fundraising is provided to all registered trip participants. Each volunteer can easily raise funds online through a unique fund raising page created just for them. A fund raising packet is also provided which is full of ideas on how each volunteer can raise support and supplies for their medical mission trip.

Community Health Education is a primary sustainable piece of every medical mission trip. Every patient receives at least 10 health education classes in addition to a medical and/or dental examination and treatment. The goal is to provide patients with as much understanding of disease, how to prevent them and also proper health, cooking & hygiene practices.

Many people interested in a medical mission trip have questions around security. Security is taken very seriously at International Medical Relief. A review of all activities occurring on the ground is done prior to departure. International Medical Relief also works with the State Department, a security team, and the in country hosts to know the ground situation and insure the safety of each team.
